Know the Story

The same lesson, after the sun goes down.

This is the midnight treatment of the lesson I learned from Macca: a trusted Army mate, diesel mechanic and motorcycle builder whose discipline applies long after the tools are put away.

Like Macca said: before we begin, every ride starts with discipline.

Why Macca opens the ride

Macca and I met at Army basic training in Kapooka more than twenty years ago. We continued through the School of Signals and Darwin, and I learned through experience that he was the mate who would pull me out of a jam and be there when it mattered.

After I left the service, Macca changed corps and became a diesel mechanic in Engineering. He later rebuilt a 1943 Harley-Davidson 42WLA and a 1959 BMW R60 from their individual pieces. When he talks about discipline and maintenance, the knowledge is lived—not borrowed.

Enjoy the Ride was the original song I wrote for Macca. West Coast Ride brought the lesson into my grittier Chicano Soul world. Let’s Ride stripped it further toward Soul, and the Midnight Mix lets that same version cruise after dark.

The treatment changes, but Macca’s voice and rule remain at the beginning: ‘Before we begin, every ride starts with discipline.’ The night road does not change the truth; it gives it another place to travel.

03 / Feel

Feel the Soul

What I want you to feel

The road may feel freer at night, but freedom still rests on the work done before the ride. That is true of a motorcycle, a friendship and anything else you hope will carry you safely for years.
