Know the Story

One story. Three versions. A lifetime of friendship.

Tell It Again was written for Manny’s birthday—a warm roast of the mate who never runs out of stories, even when Zack and I remember things a little differently.

Me and Zack were there, but what do we know? You’ve got the floor, here we go.

Manny has the floor

Manny, Zack and I share memories of Whittier Boulevard, school days, pole vaulting in camo fatigues and late nights cutting leather in the garage. One story starts, three versions fill the air, and Manny tells his with both hands moving.

We each took our own path, but get us talking and Manny still has the floor—details growing, punchline approaching, absolutely certain that is how it happened. Zack and I may disagree, but we start laughing before he gets there.

Somewhere between “that ain’t how it went” and “tell it again” is a lifetime of friendship: the stories we repeat, the people who remember them with us and the laughter that keeps the years close.

What I want you to feel

The best friendships do not need perfect agreement. They need shared history, affection strong enough to survive the roasting and one more story everybody already knows by heart.
